Brown Sugar Spice Rub

Chili powder is the star of this rub, giving it a red undertone. Chili powder is often thought of as a single seasoning, when it actually is a blend of spices, such as paprika, cumin, cayenne, ancho chile powder, coriander, turmeric, ginger and/or oregano.

Capsaicin is one of the components responsible for the burning effect in spices such as cayenne and paprika. Research suggests capsaicin may play a role in acting as a natural pain reliever.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt 
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper 
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mix together brown sugar, chili powder, salt, pepper, onion powder and garlic powder. 
  2. Use as a spice rub on your favorite protein.
