So what’s the deal with supplements?

The supplement industry is currently worth 122 billion dollars. Yes, you read that right - 122 billion dollars… Supplements that you may find at the store, or online, are not regulated by the FDA, but rather regulated by the manufacturer. As a result, it can be risky to know exactly what you are putting in your body. One of the most important pieces of advice I tell my clients is to always remember, if a tag line on a supplement sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

For my clients, I recommend supplements through a top quality company that emphasizes certain standards for each and every product. Additionally, only licensed healthcare practitioners are able to order such products. They thoroughly investigate each product’s quality and manufacturing processes to ensure each product meets and/or exceeds current good manufacturing practices (CGMPs) enforced by the FDA. To learn more about CGMPs, check out the article below.

Finally, vitamin and mineral levels have the ability to be toxic and should not be added without supervision from a licensed professional. So the next time you are thinking about buying a supplement in a store, or online, please consult a licensed healthcare practitioner first.
